Argos ready to offer £50 discount on new Sagemcom RTI90-320 Freeview HD Recorder?

A few days ago Argos released their own iPhone app which allows you to search the catalogue, view stock at your nearest store and reserve and click. So I was browsing around to see how the app worked when I noticed this in the Freeview Digital TV set top boxes category under ‘Home Entertainment’….

Screen shot from the Argos iPhone app - does this reveal that the Sagemcom RTI90-320 will be £50 cheaper here than anywhere else?

Ok, so you it’s the Sagemcom RTI90-320 T2 Freeview HD Recorder (Freeview+ HD). Nothing new there, we’ve had the info on this site for some time complete with price comparison to find the cheapest price. However, you might be interested to know that this product doesn’t currently appear on the Argos website and searching using the product code shown on the iPhone app simply says no product found. What’s even more interesting is the price – while it is currently cheapest at Amazon, where the price is £249.99, the iPhone app shows the full price of £249.99 discounted to just £199.99.

The fact that it can only be seen on the new iPhone app suggests that it is an error and it can’t be reserved now, however there’s no reason to suggest that it won’t appear on the website very soon.  Whether that will be the price it will be sold at from Argos remains to be seen, but if it is, it’s a great sign for those people waiting to buy a Freeview+ HD box.

As far as I can see, the Argos iPhone app doesn’t allow you to buy ‘mail order’ only to reserve items to be collected at your local store. I checked the stores locally to me in the Midlands, but there was no stock to be reserved. If you have an iPhone, it would be interesting to see if anyone finds any stock at their local store and if indeed you can reserve one at the attractive price of £199.99.

Download the Argos iPhone app here and let us know if you can reserve the item at your local store.

WHAT A GREAT SPOT ? THE ONLY PROBLEM IS TRY AND FIND WHICH OF THEIR STORES
    HAVE ANY STOCK !
BECAUSE I CAN’T FIND ONE IN MY AREA IN NORTH WEST OF LANCASHIRE.

THEY MAY AS WELL OFFER THEM AT 50P EACH IF THEY CAN’T GET THE STOCK.

BEST OF LUCK FINDING THIS PRODUCT.

Like others I spotted the Sagem HD Hdd Recorder at what looked a bargain price, the advert seen both in national newspaper and the Argos store in Warminster, so in I popped armed with the cat No given in advert which wasn’t in the catalogue or on website by the way. the store assistant seached the whole of Argos’s stores and warehouse to no avail, the item just didn’t excist. E’mails to Argos brought vague reasons for this the silliest being that it was probably an ‘end of line’ item. Customer services were either unaware of anything or trying to hide what looks like a bit of a cock up. Still best to keep ones eyes open.

Philips HDT8520. If you want to record HD from Freeview do not buy this box at the moment. I have just returned it after a few days because the lip sync is so bad when replaying a recording. Philips claim that they will be issuing new software in July. However they could not tell me if this new version would fix the probem. Another show stopper as far as I am concerned is not being able to view a channel by selecting it on the EPG.( The EPG is only used for recording)
I think manufacturers should avoid shipping unfinished products.

I have had 3 Sagem HD recorders and all have failed within 2 weeks of purchase. Not a good buy in my opinion, I now have a Sharp whch has a larger hard drive for the same cost and it works

BEWARE Argos are consistently the highest priced store for Freeview HD boxes. Tesco and Richer Sounds (especially with their 5 year extended warranty @10% of the purchase price) are consistently among the best value for money.

This Sagemcom is available from Tesco Direct for £180 http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.210-3515.aspx
