Top Gear added to Freeview HD Line-up

The BBC has confirmed that the next series of Top Gear, to be aired in 2010, will be screened in High Definition and broadcast on the BBC HD channel.

There was much despair amongst the growing community of Jeremy Clarkson fans when the BBC HD schedule was released, with Top Gear nowhere to be seen. At the time, BBC HD was only available to those paying a subscription for Sky HD, or those with a Freesat satellite-based HD system.

Now that the launch of Freeview HD is imminent, the BBC has decided that now is the time to start filming in glorious High Definition. Freeview HD will be the first major move to bring HD to the millions when it is launched in December 2009 in the Granada region.

To view Freeview HD, you will need an additional Freeview HD box to go with your HD TV. However, there will be a mass hunt as it appears that manufacturers won’t have sufficient stocks of Freeview HD set-top-boxes until the early parts of 2010. So far, only Humax and Pace have revealed any firm intentions and indications that they are nearing completion on design. Sony, Panasonic and other main-stream manufacturers are expected to join in shortly after, with Freeview HD Recorders and LCD TVs with integrated Freeview HD.
